The project

A self-initiated design concept, built by Lumith to explore how a heritage hospitality brand should work online. It was not commissioned, and out of respect for the venue we do not name it or show its branding here. The full, named version is available by email on request.

The premise: a restaurant with a real story, a grandmother's house and decades of regulars, deserves more than a template one-pager. We built the site around the legend rather than the menu grid: hand-painted watercolours of the rooms, ink lettering that writes itself in, and a decorative letter ghosted behind every section.

The menu is the centrepiece. Eastern European home cooking is unfamiliar to most British diners, so every dish is photographed on the same house plate and paired with two lines of taste notes, removing the fear of ordering something you can't picture. The concept also covers a deli shop, gift vouchers, table booking and a full English, Russian and Chinese translation.

What's inside
  • Heritage-led storytelling: legend, rooms and evenings, not a menu grid
  • Hand-painted watercolour scenes, several animated as living loops
  • Full dish carousel: one house plate per dish, with taste notes
  • Deli catalogue, gift vouchers, booking and tipping flows
  • Three languages: English, Russian and Chinese
  • Decorative letter system spelling the name across the page
