£240 a month from the site, £2,581 net in year one after the build cost.
Profit = enquiries × close rate × job value × margin, minus any monthly fee. The enquiries figure does all the work: a site nobody visits brings nothing, whatever it cost.
A website earns money one way: enquiries that turn into jobs. Multiply enquiries a month by the share you win, by the average job value, by your margin on it, take off any monthly hosting or care fee, and that is the monthly profit the site is producing. Divide the build cost by it and you have the payback in months.
The defaults are deliberately modest: four enquiries a month, one in four won, an £800 job at 30% margin. On a £299 site that pays back in about five weeks. Change them to your own numbers; the point is that the answer is rarely close.
Where it stops: a site that gets no visitors brings no enquiries, so the enquiries figure is doing all the work here. If you do not know it, the site audit will tell you what the current one is bringing.
