Why your trade website isn't bringing in enquiries (and how to fix it)

If your site looks fine but the phone stays quiet, the problem is usually one of three things. Here's how to find it and fix it.

Plenty of trade websites look perfectly decent and still bring in next to nothing. The work is good, the reviews are real, but the enquiries aren't landing. Nine times out of ten it comes down to three things: people can't find you, they don't trust you fast enough, or there's no obvious next step once they arrive.

Fix those three and a quiet site starts earning. Here's how to tell which one is costing you.

1. They can't find you

If you only get work from word of mouth, you're invisible to everyone who isn't already a referral. Most jobs now start with a search ("electrician near me", "boiler repair [your town]") and if you're not on the first page, you don't exist for that customer.

The fixes are well-worn but they work: a page for each core service, local pages for the towns you cover, and a Google Business Profile that's actually filled in: categories, photos, hours, and a steady trickle of reviews. That's the bread and butter of local SEO, and it's usually where the biggest, cheapest wins are.

2. They don't trust you fast enough

A visitor decides whether you look credible in a few seconds, long before they read your copy. On a phone, on site, with one bar of signal, a slow page or a wall of stock photos quietly kills the lead.

Trust is built with proof, fast:

  • Real photos of real jobs, not stock images
  • Accreditations on show, shown the right way
  • Two or three reviews that answer the questions every customer asks
  • A site that loads quickly and reads cleanly on a phone

A homeowner choosing between three quotes will pick the one that looks like the safe pair of hands. Your website is that first impression.

3. There's no obvious next step

This is the one that catches good firms out. The site looks great, the visitor is interested, and then they have to hunt for a way to get in touch. A contact form buried three clicks deep, no phone number near their thumb, no clear "get a quote".

Make the next step impossible to miss: click-to-call, a quote request that works in two taps, and (for the calls you can't take on the tools) an AI intake that answers 24/7 and books the job while you're under a sink.

Fix the leaks before you rebuild

You rarely need to start from scratch. Most of the time it's a handful of leaks: a slow homepage image, a missing phone number, no service pages, an empty Google profile. Patch those and you can measure the difference in a fortnight, without the cost and disruption of a full rebuild.

If you'd rather just see what a sharp, conversion-focused site costs, build a quote in a couple of minutes: fixed price, no waiting. Or book a free call and we'll tell you honestly whether to fix or rebuild.
